The Film
In 2016, a team of filmmakers with their own bills to pay went out to better understand the financial landscape of communities after the Great Recession. After receiving a grant from the Michigan Credit Union League, they embarked on their journey across the U.S. The result was Just Getting By — a documentary capturing the stories of individuals from all walks of life struggling to make ends meet. The feature-length film includes a family with children who require expensive medical treatments and supplies; a college graduate facing a six-figure student loan burden; a business owner forced to decide between paying her employees or her bills; and so many others who depend on multiple jobs and utilize predatory financial resources to get by.
